Chemistry of Happiness: Cosmetics and Chocolate!

Do you know what is the similarity between chocolates and cosmetics?

The cocoa (chocolate's raw material) has a unique composition, with more than 500 different compounds. We are going to describe some similarities between the benefits of chocolate and of the cosmetics’ active ingredients, to show that chocolate and cosmetics can be quite good for our body, organism, and good mood!

  • Cocoa is composed of polyphenols: tannins and flavonoids. These compounds give the characteristics of bitterness and astringency to the cocoa and have numerous benefits such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, analgesic and vasodilator properties. And specifically the flavonoids serve as food for probiotic bacteria, thus cocoa can be an ally of the intestinal flora.

  • Caffeine is another compound present in cocoa and is a stimulant of the central nervous system, it also improves concentration and energy, has a thermogenic effect and can contribute to weight loss.

  • Cocoa also has other stimulants: theobromine, theophylline, and phenylethylamine, which promote a feeling of well-being, because they are associated with dopamine. There is also the amino acid tryptophan, which helps synthesize serotonin and improves the mood.

  • And the cocoa seed - used to manufacture chocolate - besides containing amino acids, minerals and proteins also has vitamins! And we highlight here the vitamins A and the vitamins from the B group, excellent for our body!

Now a curious question: is chocolate addictive?

The chocolate is not really addictive. It stimulates the desire because it contains some components associated with addiction such as caffeine, theobromine, and phenylethylamine. And chocolate is proven to release endorphins, making the chocolate lovers feel the need to feel the pleasure associated with eating chocolate!

Just as cocoa has several benefits for our body, the active ingredients for cosmetics also contain wonderful properties that benefit our skin, body, and well-being!

Here we have some actives' properties related to the benefits of cocoa:

  • With great antioxidant potential, the NV Ascorbic is the Ascorbic Acid in its most stable form, granting all the benefits from the Vitamin C: anti-aging, whitening effect, expression lines, and wrinkle reduction.

  • Since we mentioned the probiotic bacteria that feed on flavonoids, our Symbiocaps LA could not be left out. This active ingredient has Lactobacillus Acidophillus (LA) and promotes high hydration and restoration of the skin immunity, helps to fight the aging process, leaving the skin with a young and healthy look.

  • And talking about caffeine, we have a powerful active with this stimulant for body care, localized fat treatment, and cellulite: the Nano Cellulitech, which has thermogenic, anti-inflammatory and anti-free radicals properties and also improves the local microcirculation.

  • We must also mention the vitamins, essential for our body! The Nanovetor Vitamin A is another powerful antioxidant, with action against free radicals and potential to stimulate collagen synthesis, promoting skin rejuvenation. And the Nano Oil Control is a blend of essential oils and pro-vitamin B5, with astringent and oiliness regulation action, indicated for skin and hair scalp. They are active ingredients rich in phenolic acids, powerful refreshing substances and oil regulators with astringent action.

It is amazing to think that both the raw material for cosmetics and the raw material of chocolate have so many benefits for the body and well-being. Just like some chocolate components, the sensation of feeling good and beautiful is also addictive!
